In May 2018 Mindset began its first girl’s football team. Their first tournament a month later saw them win the Can We Kick it cup in Mile End. The team returned to win it again in June 2019.
The team started off the 2018-19 season playing in the Echo u12 league, against boy’s week in week out, up to December 2018. The team then moved, to play in the Camden & Islington Football League for girls. This saw the team win every game and drawing one. The team reached the cup final which they were beaten 2-0 as nerves got the better of them, they lost to the team that they beat twice in the league.
In May 2019, the team also went to the ESF tournament in Bogna Regis and won the Fair play Award. As they battled it out with teams from all over the UK, playing a year up and they really gave there all, losing the first game then drawing 3 games and winning one. The team really did well and made a name for themselves playing attractive football in a 9-a-side tournament with no subs, so the girls got no rest, as they normally play 7-a-side.
Nike tournament and Half Time LDN
The girls entered The Nike tournament Take Over 2019 at hackney marshes and the girls got to the semi-finals after finishing second in their group, losing out on penalties after a 0-0 tense game.
The girls got a lot of support on the social media side with the help of Half time London who support the girl’s game. The girls where part of a short film (2019), aimed at growing the woman’s game during the world cup and where invited to the Nike 1948 building where they got to preview their short movie and have a Q&A after a short talk on their first full season playing football in a team.
